Dear %%user-name%%,

It is our final week of the Season! We hope you enjoyed your array of  local, seasonal seafood during this Holiday Seafood Medley. Thank you for supporting our mission to help subsidize our many local Fisheries in NH. And special thanks to all our Annual Members who bought seafood from us all year long!!

Our Catch of the Week are Scallops. These are ocean caught scallops, taken from their shell, bagged and delivered directly to you from the boat!

There is a short season for scallops here in NH and we are glad to take advantage of their seasonal abundance.

Each share this week is 1 lb.  There are from 20-25 Scallops/1 lb bag. If you doubled your order or ordered Additional orders, they will be in 1 lb bags at your Pick up Location.

Our 1 lb bag of Scallops, directly off the boat this week

Our Fishermen this week come from Rye, NH and Portland, Maine. Taylor and Peter Phillips, of the F/V Madrigan out of Rye and Captains from the F/V High Roller and F/V DD Mae II, Portland caught our scallops this week.

Taylor Phillips helped catch some of our Scallops this week on his Father's boat, the F/V Madrigan out of Rye, NH

We sincerely thank you for your support this year and for helping make this the most successful year ever for NH Community Seafood!

We will have sign ups for our Spring Session up and running soon! Then in April, we will be back for our Spring Session with lots of diverse seafood in our offerings!

All the best in the New Year and see you in the Spring!

Dear %%user-name%%,

Welcome to Week 3 of our Third Annual Holiday Seafood Medley Session! We hope you are thoroughly enjoying our diverse array of local and seasonal seafood that our area Seafood Harvesters have to offer!

This week we are serving Oysters and your share size is 18 oysters. If you ordered Additional Oysters, they will come by the dozen.

Brian Gennaco, a dear friend of mine and former coworker, is the owner of Virgin Oyster Company, Dover, NH. Brian has two oyster farms in the Great Bay and Bellamy River and has provided us with oysters this entire year.

He started harvesting and setting aside our oysters for this week a few days ago and yesterday, braved the cold and snow (as one of the last Oyster Farmers brazen enough to still be out on the water) to harvest today's oysters!  Here is documentation of his dedication:

A harvest barge with a view, yesterday in Great Bay

Brian Gennaco, on a much warmer day last summer, harvesting oysters

Your oysters come live in the shell and many people like to eat them raw. If you don't like them raw, try grilling them on the grill (with your winter gear on) with the flat side facing up, for 8 minutes! They cook in their own juices and open up and are ready to eat!

Thanks for making it Seafood for the Holidays! Remember, next week is our final week and we will be serving up freshly caught NH Scallops! Order extra here by Sunday night, 9pm!

Happy Holidays,

Andrea Tomlinson

Dear %%user-name%%,

Welcome to Week 2 of our Holiday Seafood Medley! We hope you all enjoyed that delicious thick fillet of Halibut last week, I know I did! This week we are serving you local Lobsters, 3-chix/share. A chix lobster is a lobster that weighs between 1.1-1.25lbs.

Each week, we offer "Add-ons" for that week, allowing you to order Additional orders of the Seafood of the Week. Typically, these orders have to be in by Sunday, the week of delivery. If you would like more Oysters for next week, please order them here. These will need to be in by this Friday, 9pm, in order to give our Oyster Farmer, Brian Gennaco, ample time to harvest extras for next week.

Our Lobsters this week come from two local Lobstermen, NH Community Seafood Board President, Damon Frampton, of the F/V Vivian Mae, Portsmouth and a new supplier this year, John Heisey, F/V New Moon, out of Rye Harbor.

Dear %%user-name%%,

Happy Holidays and Welcome to our Third Annual Holiday Seafood Medley! We created this session in 2015 to provide our Members with a variety of fresh and local seafood that is in season for the month of December!

Your Premier Fish for this Session is Atlantic Halibut. Halibut, a large flounder, is one of the largest fish found in the Gulf of Maine. Only swordfish, tuna and some sharks surpass the halibut in size! And although it was formerly overfished, quota in our region is now highly restricted, which makes it a highly sought after and premium species for our Holiday Medley!

We have just three boats fishing in NH this week and none were lucky enough to land a halibut as of today (like the one pictured below, caught on the NH boat, F/V Heidi & Elisabeth earlier this year). So, we have outsourced from the F/V Olympia out of Boston for the beginning of the week and hope to get a NH boat Halibut later this week!

Erik Crowley, crew member on the F/V Heidi & Elisabeth with a Halibut earlier this year

COOKING HALIBUT: Cook Halibut as you would flounder, 10 minutes an inch, the cardinal rule for cooking fish. Here are some great flounder recipes to choose from on our Pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/nhcsf/flounder/

HOLDS THIS SESSION: You can hold for any week you don't like the offering in this session and double up on another week! Holds must be in by SUNDAY, 9PM the week before your share is delivered. You can do the holds here.

ADD-ONS THIS SESSION: We will have Additional Add-ons available each week of this Session! Get your extra Lobsters, Oysters and Scallops for those weeks here! These also need to be in by Sunday, 9pm the week before you delivery!

Lobsters are next week! Each share consists of 3-chix lobsters and you can order extra if you would like.

Thanks for making it Seafood for the Holidays and to continue our support for our NH Fishing Industries! Enjoy this fantastic fish!

Dear %%user-name%%,

It's hard to believe we are in our final Week of our Fall Session, Week 15 for all Annual and 15-week Fall Members! This Session will end this week and we sincerely thank you for your continued support for this season!

If you would like to continue to receive a variety of local and seasonal seafood for the month of December, you can sign up today for our Annual Holiday Seafood Medley Session

With this Session, you can hold any week you don't like the offerings and double up on a week that you do like the offerings!

HOLIDAY SEAFOOD MEDLEY SESSION

Four weeks of  Halibut, Lobsters, Oysters and Scallops

And this week is our Oyster Add on Week! We are allowing all deliveries except Tuesday deliveries (those got harvested today), to order Oysters here up until tonight at 9pm! Your oysters will be delivered with your fish shares!

Our final week's fish will be Flounder, a mixture of American Plaice, Yellowtail and Winter Flounder! We started the Season with Flounder and will end with Flounder!

Additional Fish for this week can be ordered here! Use your credit and get more fish or stock up your freezer for the Holiday!

 American Plaice

The American Plaice or "Dabs" are a cold water species that range from southern Labrador to Rhode Island and in the eastern Atlantic from Greenland to northern Europe. Dabs live on the sandy/mud bottom and prefer deep water. Some can be found as deep as 700m (about 2100ft). They are reddish to gray-brown on top and have a blueish white underside. They have a distinctly pointy nose and rough scales. Plaice is a white, lean flaky fish with a mild flavor. This is a right eyed species.

  Yellowtail Flounder

The Yellowtail flounder is found in the Atlantic Ocean from Newfoundland to the Chesapeake Bay. The species got its name from the yellow tint on the tail and fins that encompass the top and bottom of the flattened out, eyes- on- top anatomy of this species. Like all flounders, the Yellowtail spends most of its time on the bottom of the ocean, particularly in sandy bottoms and is basically sedentary unless disturbed or hungry. It is a right eyed flounder.

The flesh of this bottom dweller is lean and firm with a distinctly sweet taste often used as the standard when comparing the flavor of other flounder species.

   Winter Flounder

The Winter flounder or "Blackbacks", got their name because of their migrations-in winter. Adults migrate from offshore areas where they feed to inshore areas like bays and estuaries, where they spawn. This is also a right eyed flounder. Winter flounder has a sweet taste and firm texture and is often the standard to which other flounder species are compared. Winter flounder absorbs seasoning and marinades readily and cooks up great on the grill.

Your NH Fishermen this week are the seaworthy Veterans, Neal Pike, of the F/V Sandi Lynn and F/V Hope Lynn, Seabrook and David Goethel , of the F/V Ellen Diane, Hampton. We also will be using a guest boat, F/V Cheryl Ann, out of Boston.

Captain Neal Pike (left) and Deckhand Keith Gray, F/V Sandi Lynn

Thanks to  the Captains and their hard working crews for the delicious array of Flounder this week for our final Week of NH Fresh and Local fish!

Cooking Flounder: We like to remind all our members of the Cardinal rule for cooking any fish: Cook fish 10 minutes per inch of thickness. These fillets will be very thin, so just a few minutes each side will do! Here are some great flounder recipes from our Pinterest Page : https://www.pinterest.com/nhcsf/flounder/ and https://www.pinterest.com/nhcsf/plaice/

IF YOU ARE OWED FISH FROM THIS SESSION OR STILL HAVE CREDIT:

If you are owed a Double for a Hold and would like it for this week, email us asap! All those requests will be done on our end tomorrow!

If you still have credit with us, it will not expire! You can use it to order Additional Fish here this week, click here OR use it to order Oysters this week here (as long as you are not a Tuesday delivery). You can also use it for the Holiday Seafood Medley here or just wait to use it next season!

Restaurant Supported Fishery:

We have a dedicated group of Restaurants that support us, please do patronize them for your dinner out before the New Year. Thanks to Three River Farmer's Alliance for helping us secure our Restaurant clients this year!

Our Day Boat Fishermen don't fish much in the winter. Some go south for January and February to either fish or relax and some go deep sea for lobsters. And there is no shrimp season, for the fifth year in a row. So for now, we remain a seasonal supplier of fresh seafood! We will resume our Community Supported Fishery in April next year! Once you have been a Member, we will always invite you back!

Thank you so very much for supporting our struggling Fishermen and NH's Fishing Industry! We appreciate our customers and our Fishermen really appreciate you!

We hope to see you for the Holiday Seafood Medley and if not, we certainly hope to see you back next Season!

Happy Holidays to you all and thanks again!

Best,

Andrea Tomlinson
